Please join AtlantaMINIS as we join the event organizers for this Charity event, come up for the day or the weekend and enjoy a fantastic area for MINI driving, German food and beer, and MINI companionship with other great MINI clubs.

Group Drive

When: February 18th gather at 8:00 AM and leave promptly at 8:30 AM
Where: Parking lot off GA 400 between Ryan’s and Wendy’s in Dawsonville, GA map here.
What: We will be driving to Habersham Winery for the group photo.

Additional Details
In years past,there are a lot of fun activities including tours of the Habersham Winery and outstanding drives through the scenic and winding roads of the Georgia Mountains. There have also be social events, RC car races, opportunities to show off your MINI, and the charity auction. It is a family friendly event and everyone has a great time.

Note: More details on specific activities are coming and we will update this post as we get more information.

Group rates for the hotel are:
Standard: $54.00 a night
Riverfront: $79.00 a night.

This year, we will be ordering off of the menu, so the choice is yours!

After dinner those interested can join us by playing Dirty Santa. Each participant will need to bring a wrapped gift valued no more than $20 to $25. Gifts do not have to be MINI related, and no gag gifts please. Rules will be explained at the party for those not familiar with them.

At each Christmas Party, AtlantaMINIS has a Toys for Tots collection. Over the years we have donated well over 500 toys. If you could please bring an unwrapped toy to help out some of Atlanta’s unfortunate children, it would be much appreciated. As most of you know, with the recession being as it is and unemployment at times reaching over 10%, there may be a lot more disappointed children this year than ever. Toys need to be new and unwrapped.

If you wish to participate in the Dirty Santa gift exchange, you must bring a present to exchange in addition to any child’s toy that you may have brought for Toy’s for Tots.

Bring items (or a cash donation) for the Forsyth County Animal Shelter

Items needed include:

• Gift Cards (Petco, Petsmart, Rucker, Walmart, Staples, etc)
• Purina Feline EN dry cat food
• Purina Feline UR ST OX cat food
• Hills Canine ZD dog food
• Dog Beds (we use Kuranda dog beds all sizes, but we really need large and extra large beds)

What: Fall Foliage Poker Run
When: October 9th, 10:30am start; early afternoon finish
Where: The Home Depot parking lot located at 186 Power Center Dr, Dawsonville, GA

Join us on our 4rd Annual Fall Foliage Poker Run! We have planned a fantastic route through North Georgia with three stops to draw cards, plus a beginning and end draw for a total of 5 cards. We will end at the top lot of Brasstown Bald for an outdoor picnic while the results are tabulated. Prizes donated by our sponsors will be awarded to the highest and lowest hands.

Don’t forget to pack lunch and bring your picnic blankets and chairs as there are only a few picnic tables at Brasstown Bald. Also, please bring some cash. There are a few small fees, as well as a small store onsite:

Parking $3 per car
Shuttle to the top (walk/hike for no charge)
Adults $3
Children under 10 $2
Children under 2 Free

We will start the Run in the Home Depot parking lot across from the North Georgia Premium Outlets Sunday, October 9th at 10:30am. Directions and rules will be given here. Please do show up with a full tank of fuel in your MINI. There are several opportunities to stop for breaks along the way and they will be noted on the maps. Starting location here.

What is a Poker Run?
A Poker run (also known as a Poker Derby), invented by William Taylor (of Powerboat magazine) is an organized event using a motorcycle, boat, car or other form of transportation where participants travel over a predesignated route and, at designated stops on the route, draw playing card(s). The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. Prizes (usually cash prizes) are awarded for the best hand; some runs will award smaller awards for lower hands. Poker runs usually require a fee to enter; part of the fee goes to funding the event (including the prizes), while the rest goes to the event’s cause (usually a charity of some sort). Specific rules and details vary, depending on the event.

AtlantaMINIS 8th Birthday Party

Yet another year has gone by and AtlantaMINIS is now 9 years old.

LET’S CELEBRATE!

This year, we will be holding our annual party at Hard Labor Creek State Park and will meet there at 11 AM; eating around 1 PM. Entrance to the park is $5 per vehicle, if you do not have a GA State Park pass. If some of you would like to meet up and motor over together, please feel free to do so and post in a separate thread on AtlantaMINIS Message Board. We will be meeting at the following location, so please plan your route according to the green arrow on this map.

We will be meeting at Group Shelter #2, near the beach. Link to the Park is here.

We will also be having our annual AtlantaMINIS Car Show, in which judges will be will be reviewing your cars for the following criteria. However, participation in the show is not mandatory.

Fine Shine Award – The most spotless MINI will get the judges’ attention in this category.
Judge’s Favorite Award – Bonnet stripes, rally lights and chrome delights will be judged here.
People’s Choice Award – This award will go to the MINI with the most votes.

Agenda for the “Day at the Park”

• Kickball – (Friendly game) winner’s prize – Bragging Rights
• Cookie Bake-off – Bake your favorite recipe and bring them to be judged (we will looking for ‘lil people to judge this event)
• Watermelon Eating Competition – (two heats – kids and adults)
• Watermelon Seed Spitting – (two heats – kids and adults)

Note: There is a pavilion with tables but we would recommend you bring the following and treat this as you would any outing with your family to a park:

• Folding chairs, etc. to sit on
• Something to drink – summer, outside, hot, you will get thirsty
• Snacks if you think you need them
• Bug spray – probably a good idea, it is summer in Georgia.

As we did previously, please join us for a fun drive and delicious dinner on Sunday May 15th. Our drive will start at 2pm, so plan to show before then. Our own MINIHERO will be leading the drive.

We are going to end 2.5 to 3 hours later at club member Alberto’s (aka MrFlema here on AtlantaMINIS and previous owner of several MINIs) Del Rio MexGrill in Dacula, GA.
